Abstract
667,114. Jelly powder. RECKITT & COLMAN, Ltd., and KETT, G. June 28, 1950 [April 6, 1949], No. 9437/49. Class 49. A jelly powder which yields clear jellies is produced by dry mixing a uniformly sized sugargelatine powder, made by spray-drying an aqueous colloidal solution containing sugar, a smaller weight of gelatine and 2 to 3.5 per cent of sodium carbonate or bicarbonate based on the total weight of solids, with a powdered organic acid which can liberate carbon dioxide from the carbonate or bicarbonate in aqueous solution, the amount of acid being sufficient to give a pH between 4 and 5 when 1 part of the mixture is dissolved in 3 to 5 parts by weight of water. The size of the particles of the sugar-gelatine and acid powders may be within the B.S. sieve range of 80 to 150. In the example given, a solution containing 40 per cent by weight of solids, 17.64 per cent of the solids being gelatine, 39.8 per cent sucrose, 39.8 per cent glucose and 2.76 per cent sodium bicarbonate, is homogenized and spray-dried at 72‹ C. The resulting powder is dry mixed with 3.25 per cent by weight of citric acid powder. Extra powdered sucrose or glucose may be added. Specification 596,731 is referred to.
