Abstract
578,533. Securing impellers on shafts. DOULTON & CO., Ltd., and ORSON, G. W. May 19, 1944, No. 9706. [Class 80 (ii)] A ceramic, stoneware, synthetic plastic or other non-metallic pump-impeller 1 is secured on a metal shaft 5 by a T-head 7 on the shaft, which is entered into a blind recess 11 in the impeller through a complementary opening 8, and subsequently turned into abutting relation with soliddriving projections 12 in the recess, the head 7 being drawn axially against shoulders 16, formed by the entry-opening 8, by a sleeve 14, screwed on the shaft and engaging a chamfer 15 on the impeller-boss. The recess 11 and other space between the shaft and boss are then filled with molten lead or alloy introduced through openings 17 in the sleeve 14, and reaching the recess 11 through grooves 19. Circumferential shaftgrooves 20 assist in keying the lead and asbestos string 18 also is provided.
