Abstract

536,245. Shafts; centrifugal pumps. WAYRE, F. D., FOREMAN, W. E., and DEXINE, Ltd. April 22, 1940, No. 7259. [Class 80 (ii)] [Also in Group XXVI] A rotary shaft which is exposed to the action of corrosive fluids in use, is composed of, at the surface at least, of porcelain. As shown the steel shaft 6 of a centrifugal pump has a porcelain sleeve 9 secured thereto by a layer 10 of acidresisting cement. The latter is keyed to the sleeve and shaft by the use of keyways 11, 12. The impeller 1 is a hardened non-metallic plastic material moulded around a mild steel insert 13, and the shaff 6 has a screwed end 14 screwing into tne insert 13. At the inner end the shaft 6 has a short sleeve 18 of acid-resisting metal.
