A member j carrying a bearing h adapted to prevent relative axial movement of the impeller spindle g has a screwthreaded connection with the casing a so that by rotating the member j, the position of a plain portion f of the impeller relative to the inlet port d can be adjusted to regulate the pump output. Preferably, a seal k is provided. Alternatively or in addition, a sealing impeller e<SP>1</SP> may be provided. A spill port n may be provided, through which liquid can be discharged from the seal and returned to the inlet port.
