Abstract

578,411. Nailing strips for buildings, ships, aeroplanes &c. FISCHER, H. C., and HIGGINS, A. H. W. Nov. 25, 1943, No. 19724. Convention date, Oct. 9, 1942. [Class 20 (ii)] Relates to members used in the construction of buildings &c. of the kind comprising flanged elements having alternate grooves and ribs, extending transversely across the web between the flanges, for the reception of nails, screws &c. bv which other building members are attached. According to the invention, an element A, having a web 2 and one or a pair of marginal flanges 4, is formed with transverse hollow ribs 10 alternating with grooves 12, and a second element B is secured thereto with its face 24 (which is preferably flat) opposed to the web 2, so as to form with the grooves passages into which nails or the like may be driven to hold down flooring &c. 20; the ribs 10 have convexly tapering ends merging smoothly into the face of the web. The grooves and ribs in the part A are formed bv a cold rolling process. As shown, they are sinuous, but they may be straight. The parts A and B are secured together by spot welding. One of these parts may be of heavier channel iron than the other.
