Abstract
577,723. Heating air &c. AKT.-GES. FUR TECHNISCHE STUDIEN. May 17, 1944, No. 9454. Convention date, May 19, 1943. [Class 64 (i)] In a gas-heating furnace with at least three gas-heating sections 2, 5, 6 of which one is in the combustion chamber 1 and the others are beyond the combustion chamber so that products of combustion flow in contact with them, the gas to be heated flows first through the section 5 which is partly or, as shown, wholly subjected to the lowest, or almost the lowest, flue gas tempe-atures acting on any of the sections, then into the section 2 in the combustion chamber, and finally into the section 6 where it is heated by flue gases up to the temperature required. In a form not shown, the sections which are heated by the flue gases are so arranged in the flues that the flue gases pass first over a part of the section through which the gas to be heated first passes, then over the greater part of the section through which it finally passes, then over the remainder of the first section, and finally over a small part of the final section. The furnace may form part of a thermal power plant in vhich air moving in a closed cycle is brought by at least one compressor to a higher pressure, heated in the furnace, and expanded in at least one turbine which drives the compressor and other apparatus.
