Abstract

577,303. Thermometers. MILLER, F. Sept. 12, 1944, No. 17384. [Class'97 (iii)] In thermometers &c. of the kind in which a bi-metallic coil is anchored to an axially-extending member and attached to an axial driving spindle, the unit being inserted in a tubular stem of a casing the stationary anchorage member is rotatably mounted on the dial and can be retained in adjusted position thereto so as to form an assembly which is independent of the casing into which it is placed after the settting operation. The bi-metallic coil 8 is anchored to the wings 11 of a strip 10 which is secured to a plate 14 in frictional but rotation engagement with.the dial 3 which is mounted on a hollow stud 17 carried by the plate 14. The operation spindle 9 carried by the other end of the bi-metallic coil 8 passes through the hollow stud 17 and has a pointer 16. Rotation of the anchorage member 10, 11 in relation to the dial 3 enables the thermometer to be set initially. 'The assembly is then placed in the casing, 1, 2 and a glass face 5 provided.
