Abstract
577,248. Sleeve couplings. CALLENDER'S CABLE & CONSTRUCTION CO., Ltd., and HOLLINGSWORTH, D. T. April 15, 1944, No. 6973. [Class 38 (i)] [Also in Group XXII] A small tube 3 passes through the soldered butt joint of two stranded conductors 1 of an electric cable, so as to allow the flow of a fluid, under pressure, which fills the interstices between the wires, from one conductor to the other, the tube 3 being housed in holes 2 drilled in the conductor-ends. A ferrule 5, which may be a complete tube or split longitudinally, surrounds the joint and is filled solid with solder up to the points 6. A collar 4 on the tube 3 prevents close abutment of the conductorends. A drilling-jig comprises a sleeve 7, having a reduced and split end 13 and a plug 10, and is clamped to the conductor-end, the plug being detachable for interchange purposes according to the size of drill employed.
