Abstract
905,748. Cables; cable terminals. BRITISH FEDERAL WELDER & MACHINE CO. Ltd. June 8, 1960, No. 20192/60. Classes 36 and 38 (1). A cable installation for portable electric welding equipment comprises a kickless cable 14 having two groups of conductors 2 within a protective sheath 21, a pair of mutually insulated complementary elements 23 secured together to form a Y-junction, the stem portion 25 of each of these elements being connected to one of the conductor groups and the cable sheath being secured (e.g. by clip 27) to the stem, and a branch cable 30 connected to each limb 26 of the fork of the Y-junction by means of a coupling 32 telescoped within the limb 26 (or within which the limb is telescoped). The branch cables are intended to be connected to the welding gun to avoid possibility of mechanical damage of the main cable and they each comprise a group of conductors 31 and a protective sheath 30, the latter being connected to the coupling 32 by, e.g., a clip 34. The conductors 20 may contain a flexible cooling fluid pipe 29, the Y-junction and coupling then being tubular with the telescopic connection sealed by an 0-ring. The terminals of the branch cables may be flat connectors 35 with an outlet for coolant fluid 36, or the coupling members 32 may be utilized, these being then fitted into tapered or otherwise shaped adaptors (Fig. 5, not shown).
