Abstract

577,101. Aviators' suits. TAYLOR, E. H., and BAXTER, WOODHOUSE, & TAYLOR, Ltd. July 31, 1941, No. 9739. [Class 141] An aviators' one-piece suit for use when flying at high altitudes, when the internal pressure exceeds the external pressure. is provided with irregularities at such parts as those shown in hatched lines in the Fig. to provide for freedom of movement of the body at those parts. This may be effected by the insertion of darts, or by treating the material at the parts in question to a rucking, puckering, gathering, smocking or like operation, or by one or more inserts so treated. The suit is fitted with an oxygen helmet, and is provided with rear openings closed by sliding clasp fasteners, one opening extending from the head to the heel of one foot; and another from the waist to the heel of the other foot. Inflatable flaps at the back of the openings are provided to maintain air-tight closures. Air inlets 34, 35 are provided, and a third opening 38 for connection to a pressure gauge. The openings may be closed by superimposed sliding clasp fasteners with sealing flaps located between them.
