546,082. Inflatable wearing apparel. EDWARDS, C. G. and DIMITRIOU, S. C. Jan. 30, 1942. No. 17655/40. [Class 141] A one-piece inflatable garment comprises body and leg portions 12, 10, Fig. 1, sealed at the wrists 24, ankles 25, and neck 26, the body portion being provided with separate inflatable compartments 14 inflatable through a tube 16 and branch ducts 21 each having a non-return valve 22. The compartments are each provided with a deflating valve 23. The garment opening is closed by a sliding clasp fastener 13, adapted to be sealed in an emergency by a roll 27 of adhesive plaster engaging prepared surfaces on either side of the fastener normally protected by removable tapes. The garment may be provided with gloves and with foot coverings. In a modification, Fig. 5, the garment only covers the upper part of the body, and the back comprises straps 30 running from the shoulders to a waist belt 32. The garment includes a separately-inflatable and deflatable collar 14a, Fig. 5, shaped to support the back of the head. A similar collar may be fitted to the garment shown in Fig. 1.
