Abstract
600,304. Protective clothing. GOODRICH CO., B. F. Oct. 25, 1943, No. 17571. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1942. [Class 141] A folded strip or flattened tube of soft flexible substantially waterproof material such as closely woven smoothly finished rayon fabric or fabric iightly proofed with rubber, is attached to the edges of an opening in a protective garment, such as a sleeping bag, jacket, wading suit or fireman's suit, so as to be drawn, by a draw string running through it, into overlapping flexible pleats bearing closely against the face and chin of the wearer and thus seal the opening. A protective garment for sailors may comprise a loosely fitting body garment with an opening in the front adapted to be drawn together by a sliding clasp or other fastener 17. An extensible flexible front portion 18 is secured at its edges 19, 20 to the body of the garment and to the edge 21 of the headpiece 11, which latter is attached to the body with a fullness at the neck portion 11a. The portion 18 is of considerable fullness to provide, when closed, an ample air pocket. A folded strip 24 is attached to the edges 21, 23 of the headpiece 11 and the front portion 18, so as to be capable of being drawn, by a draw string 26a running therethrough, in closely pleated condition against the face and under the chin to seal the opening to the suit. The ends of the draw string 26a are attached to patches 27 on the headpiece 11, and a sliding clamp 28 holds the strip 24.in sealing position.
