Abstract
576,591. Prismatic lamp refractors. HOLOPHANE, Ltd., and ENGLISH, S. Oct. 30, 1943, No. 17970. [Class 75 (ii)] Dome refractors for street lighting are formed with horizontal annular prisms 1, 2, 3 extending to a substantial angle above the light source and subtending at the light source L an angle extending to form 7¢‹ to 10‹ below the horizontal for refracting the incident light to an angle below the horizontal, and with vertical prisms 4 extending to from 20‹ to 25‹ below the horizontal for concentrating the light passing through the annular prisms and part of the light below the annular prisms in substantially opposite directions. The refractor may be formed in one piece with the prisms on its inner and outer surfaces or in two parts the outer part having prisms on its inner surface and the inner part having prisms on its outer surface. The outer part may be longer than the inner part and be formed with a shoulder resting on on a lip at the bottom of the inner part. The refractors may be of rounded form as illustrated in Specifications 337,398, [Class 75 (ii)], and 398,419.
