Abstract

596,354. Trough shaped reflectors. HOLOPHANE, Ltd. (Holophane Co., Inc.). July 26, 1945, No. 19185. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] A lamp is provided with a reflector which effects the same redistribution of light as a specular metal reflector, the reflector being made of flat transparent elements ribbed either internally or externally and mirrored. The ribs which are provided where the surface of the trough departs from that of the metal reflector, shown in dotted lines 11, have their surfaces tipped relatively to the corresponding inner faces so that incident light is reflected in the same direction in which the metal reflector would have reflected it. The trough may be of polygonal-cross-section, Fig. 3 showing one with two sides, and Fig. 2 one with three sides in which light striking the side faces 14 is reflected across the vertical axis while light striking the upper face 13 is reflected laterally without impinging on the side faces. The reflectors are typically of glass, mirrored as at M, pressed flat and assembled in the desired position.
