Abstract

531,868. Prismatic plates for lamps. HOLOPHANE, Ltd. (Rolph, T. W.). Aug. 4, 1939, No. 22681. [Class 75 (ii)] A prismatic plate 20 which transmits divergent light from a light source 21- at reduced angles of divergence has one or more integral light-modifying louvres 22 ... 27 on its light-emergent side to screen the prismatic area of the plate beyond a given angle from the beam axis. These louvres reduce glare due to stray light. The louvres may have enamelled or etched surfaces 33, horizontal prisms 35 which refract or reflect light upwardly, vertical totallyreflecting prisms 37, or vertical diffusing flutes 39. The louvres may be annular, for use with a point source, or straight, for use with a long light source. Two groups of straight louvres may cross at right-angles to one another. A curved plate with louvres on its convex surface may have them protected by a second plate, which is flat. In Fig. 13 a central zone 67 is surrounded by a flared refracting, part 68, a clear zone 70, and a reflecting part 71. Specification 112,738, [Class 75 (ii)], is referred to.
