575,907. Electrifying air charges. HUNT, F. O. April 12, 1944, No. 6705. [Class 7 (ii)] The air charge of a compression ignition engine is given an electric charge opposite in sign to that acquired by the fuel during spraying. As shown, a Wimshurst machine or other electrical generator G delivers a silent discharge across the poles of an electrode B in the combustion space of an opposed piston two-cylinder engine after it has delivered a similar charge by an electrode A to the air in a pre-compression space 13, the discharges being controlled by a rotary arm 7 on the crankshaft and contacts 4, 6 and 5, 6.
