[Class 83 (iii)] An adjustable packing-block comprises a base a adapted to be bolted to a work-bench, a work-supporting platform f having a depending stem e screwed at its lower end to engage the screw-threaded lower end of a sleeve c integral with the base and a member g freely mounted around the sleeve c and urged by a spring i into frictional engagement with the undersurface of the platform f. In operation, the member g which is knurled on the outside is turned by hand and frictionally rotates the platform which is raised until it contacts the work to be supported, after which the member g rotates idly. The periphery of the platform is notched at k so that it can be turned back by hand to an inoperative position.
