Abstract
575,490. Steam traps. BRADLY, M.F. Nov. 25, 1943, No. 19703. Convention date, Oct. 27, 1942. [Class 64 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIX] A steam trap of the kind in which a valve opens to release condensate but closes against steam, comprises a casing having an upper chamber 10 housing a valve disc 11, and a lower chamber 13 of lesser diameter providing a valve seating 13a. The inlet port 15 is arranged centrally of the chamber 13, and the exhaust port 19 at one side and at a slightly lower level than the seating of the inlet port, whereby a constant communication is provided between port 19 and chamber 13. Alternatively, the port 19 may engage the valve in closed position, a bleeder passage being provided at the top of the tube 18. The weight of the valve and the size and position of the ports are so chosen that the valve rises to a position of equilibrium when water is passing, the pressure in the chambers 10, 13, being lower than in the port 16. If steam passes, pressure rises in the chamber 10 and the valve closes. A bleeder passage 23 in the valve connects chambers 10, 13.
