Abstract
724,440. Steam traps. WELLS, H. J. C. March 10, 1953, No. 6593/53. Class 64 (2). A steam trap having a condensate discharge valve 18 also has an air vent valve, e.g. a disc 28 in a casing 21, 23 with an inlet 38 above the water level in the trap and an outlet 31. Moreover, the pressure at the inlet 38 raises the valve disc 28 from concentric, annular seats 22, 25 to permit air discharge, but, when steam escapes, pressure above and below the valve 28 is balanced so that gravity causes closure. A small hole 40 in the valve disc 28 permits dissipation of the steam above the disc so that any inlet pressure may lift it open again. The air vent inlet is fitted with a strainer 24. Steam &c. enters the trap through an inlet 11 and collected condensate lifts the valve 18 by means of a float 14 and a pivoted lever 17 to discharge through an outlet 12 to which the outlet 31 of the air vent valve is connected by a passage 35 in a wall of the trap casing.
