Abstract

Local delustred effects on nylon fabrics are obtained by treating selected areas of the fabrics with a solution of a metal inorganic salt, e.g. a chloride, bromide or nitrate of lithium, calcium or zinc in a lower aliphatic alcohol, e.g. methanol or ethanol. The fabric may be printed with the solution to which an alcohol-soluble thickening agent, e.g. an alcohol-soluble resin may be added. Alternatively, the fabric may be printed with a resist, e.g. with starch paste or with a gum solution and then immersed in the inorganic salt-alcohol solution. The fabric may be dyed before or after treatment or dyestuffs may be incorporated in the resist solution. In the examples: (1) nylon fabric is printed with a paste containing calcium chloride, ethanol and an ethanol - soluble colophony, dried and washed with ethanol to remove the resin; (3) nylon fabric is printed with a resist containing gum senegal, water and Duranol Brilliant Blue BS, dried and steamed, nip-padded in a solution of calcium chloride in ethanol and finally dried, rinsed with water and again dried.
