Abstract
544,146. Treating artificial silk. HARDACRE, R. W.,' and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. Sept. 27, 1940, No. 14656. [Classes 2 (ii) and 15 (ii)] Pattern effects are obtained on cellulose acetate artificial silk which has been delustred by means other than insoluble inorganic delustring compounds by relustring the material locally by applying thereto a paste containing a salt of adipic acid with ammonia or an alkyl or alkylene derivative thereof, including a cyclic derivative, and thereafter steaming. Specified amines are methylamine, diethylamine, trimethylamine, ethylenediamine, cyclohexylamine, piperidine, hexamethylenetetramine and pyridine and its homologues. The neutral, acid or basic salts may be used. The process is applicable for obtaining coloured or an uncoloured relustre on an uncoloured delustred ground or a relustre on a coloured delustred ground. In examples, (1) cellulose acetate artificial silk sateen, delustred by treatment for 2 hours with an aqueous soap solution at 98‹C. containing phenol, is printed with an aqueous paste containing gum tragacanth and ammonium adipate, dried, steamed for half an hour at about 100‹C. and rinsed; (2) a similar sateen, similarly 'delustred, is printed with an aqueous paste containing "Nafka" (Registered Trade Mark) crystal gum, Duranol brilliant blue BS and ammonium adipate and similarly steamed to obtain a lustrous blue pattern on a delustred. white ground ; (3) a similar sateen, similarly delustred, and dyed with Duranol brilliant blue CB, is printed and steamed as in (1) to obtain a lustrous blue pattern on a delustred blue ground.
