Abstract

Synthetic linear polyamides are dyed by applying a 1 : 2-chromium complex of an o,o1- dihydroxy monoazo dyestuff of the benzeneazo-pyrazalone, -benzene, or -naphthalene series which contains a sulphonic acid amide or an alkyl sulphonyl group and a substituent which does not confer solubility in water to polyamide chips in an aqueous dispersion containing no organic solvent as the dyebath and subsequently melting the dyed chips and spinning into filaments or processing into solid articles. The processes claimed in Specifications 994,388, 847,959, and 839,712 which result in dispersions that contain a polyamide, linear polyester or other synthetic resin are disclaimed. Salts, e.g. ammonium or sodium acetate or monosodium phosphate, acids, e.g. formic or acetic, or dispersing agents may be present in the dyebath. Specified polyamides are nylons 6 and 66.
