Abstract

The invention comprises the salts of dyestuffs which in their ionised state have their chromophoric systems in cation, with acids of the formula <FORM:0882837/IV (c)/1> where R is alkyl, x is 1 or 2 and y is 1, 2 or 3, provided that at least one of the positions orthoto the -O(CH2)yCOOH group is unsubstituted. The salts are made by treating a water-soluble salt of the dyestuff with an acid of the above formula in the presence of an alkaline agent or with a water-soluble salt of said acid. When the dyestuff is stable in the form of its base then this may be treated with the acid to form the desired salt. Large numbers of dyestuffs and acids of the above formula are specified. The Provincial Specification relates to the salts of the above dyestuffs with acids of the formula <FORM:0882837/IV (c)/2> where R1 is alkyl, R2 is hydrogen, halogen, or a carboxyl or alkyl group, x is 1, 2, 3 or 4, y is 0, 1 or 2 and z is 1 or 2, provided that (x+z) is not greater than 5 and provided that at least one of the positions orthoto at least one of the <FORM:0882837/IV (c)/3> groups is unsubstituted.
