Abstract

The invention comprises dyestuffs which contain at least two acid groups imparting solubility in water and correspond to the formula <FORM:0933506/IV(a)/1> wherein X is a primary amino group, Z is hydrogen or a sulphonic acid group, B is a divalent organic radical containing 1 or 2 aromatic six-membered rings and Y is a chloro-or bromo-triazinylamino- or -pyrimidylamino group. Divalent radicals specified for B are phenylene, phenylene-aminophenyl, phenylene-azophenyl, phenylene-sulphonamidophenyl and phenylene-sulphonamido alkyl and similar radicals having sulpho or carboxy substituents in the phenyl or phenylene groups. As well p as chlorine or bromine atoms the triazine radical may also contain amino, sulphophenyl-amino or -oxy, sulphonaphthyl-amino or -oxy, or sulphoalkylamino substituents and the pyrimidine radical may also contain a sulphonic acid substituent. The dyes are made by treating a dye of the formula <FORM:0933506/IV(a)/2> where X, Y, Z and B are as above, with a reducing agent in a weakly acid to alkaline bath to split off the 2-sulphonic acid group and then re-oxidizing the dye if necessary. Examples are given. The dyes dye and print cellulose materials and fibres of polyvinyl alcohol in conjunction with an alkaline treatment and nitrogenous fibres from a weakly acid, neutral or weakly alkaline bath in blue shades.
