Abstract

Leather, including chrome leather, is dyed in deep, neutral black shades by applying a dyestuff of the formula:- <FORM:0765087/IV(b)/1> where R is a benzene or naphthalene radical which contains no substituent sulphonic acid group but may be substituted by an alkyl, alkoxy, aryl, aryloxy, nitro, acylamino, amino or carboxyl group or a halogen atom. Numerous examples are given of the radical R. The dyestuff is applied in a neutral to weakly acidic aqueous solution. The dyestuff may be prepared by coupling a diazodisazo dyestuff of the formula <FORM:0765087/IV(b)/2> with 1-amino-3-hydroxy-benzene in an acid, neutral or alkaline medium.
