Abstract
Fabrics made of artificial silk of any kind are given a non-slip finish by treatment with a solution or dispersion of a resin acid or an alkali-metal or ammonium resinate containing not more than 4 per cent of resin acid or resinate, followed by a treatment which deposits the free resin acid on the surface of the fabric. When a resin acid is taken as such, the after-treatment may consist merely in squeezing and drying the fabric. When an alkali-metal resinate is taken, the fabric may be after-treated with a large volume of water at a raised temperature or with dilute acid, whereby the resinate is hydrolysed. When an ammonium resinate is taken, the fabric may afterwards be heated, to decompose the resinate. In the examples, (1) the fabric is treated with a diluted solution of colophony in sodium hydroxide solution, then passed several times through a large volume of water at 80-90 DEG C., and finally rinsed and dried; (2) fabric treated with the solution used in example (1) is passed through dilute hydrochloric acid, washed and dried; (3) a solution of colophony in methylated spirit is treated with ammonia and then diluted with water; fabric is treated with the solution and then squeezed and dried at 40-50 DEG C.; (4) a solution of colophony in methylated spirit is diluted with water after addition of an emulsifying agent such as Twitchell base W; fabric is soaked in the emulsion, squeezed and dried. Specifications 23787/05, [Class 42, Fabrics, Dressing &c.], and 280,989, [Class 42 (i), Fabrics, Finishing &c.], are referred to.ALSO:A solution of colophony in methylated spirit is diluted with water after addition of an emulsifying agent such as Twitchell base W. An emulsion suitable for treating artificial silk fabrics is obtained.
