Abstract

276,877. Potts, H. E., (Arnold Print Works). Jan. 21, 1927. Yarns, treating with liquids; fibres, treating.- Cellulosic materials such as artificial silk, jute, linen, ramie, wood, cotton, &c. in the form of fabrics, yams, or fibrous stock are treated with a caustic alkali and thereafter the materials con. taining the alkali are subjected to the superficial action of cuprammonium solution. The treatment imparts to the materials previously mercerized or not, a resemblance to linen and increased hardness, smoothness, stiffness, and lustre, with removal of fuzz. Light fabrics are rendered more transparent. After treatment with the cuprammonium solution, the material may be stretched and is then treated with dilute sulphuric acid and washed. Pattern effects may be produced by applying the cuprammonium solution by spraying, printing, stencilling, or by means of resists.
