[Class 135] In a diaphragm-actuated regulating valve, one side of the diaphragm is acted on by a controlling pressure, and the other side by a loading pressure derived from gas under pressure which forces liquid through a restricted orifice into contact with that side. In the form shown, the valve member 16 is secured to and formed integrally with a plunger 21 guided by a sleeve 15 held in place by a removable cover 19 and is actuated by a spindle 17, the lower end of which rests in a socket in a boss on a curved plate 26 resting on a dished diaphragm 24. The diaphragm is housed in a casing formed of a number of sheet-metal parts welded and clamped together. This casing comprises a dome-shaped part 32 welded about a tubular part 37 enclosing the valve spindle. The edge of the diaphragm is clamped between a ported plate 28 and a plate 29 supported by a cup-shaped part 31. The part 31 is flanged to provide a shoulder 31a to receive a clamping plate 36 and a flange 31b to enclose the edge of the diaphragm. A flange 48 on a slotted indicating element 47 is secured between the plate 28 and a clamping plate 34. The diaphragm is loaded by gas introduced through a fitting 51 and stand pipe 68 to the space 70 in the interior of the member 31. The fitting 51 houses an elastic sleeve inlet valve mounted on a ported plug 56 screwed into the fitting and a screw-actuated needle valve 60 controlling a vent aperture 63. The space between the diaphragm and the plate 29 is connected by one or more grooves in the upper surface of the plate and a dip-pipe 69 with a body of liquid 67 introduced into the space 70 through an aperture closed by a plug 76. The upper end of the dippipe is fitted with a plug 72 provided with a restricted passage. Specifications 532,465 and 565,562 are referred to.
