Abstract
572,981. Thermionic valves. BULL, C: S. March. 5, 1940, No. 4072. [Classes 39 (i) and 40 (iii)] Conductors passing through the wall of a high-frequency valve are altered in shape when they pass through the wall to neutralize changes in capacity produced by the difference between the dielectric constant of the material of the envelope and that of air or vacuum. Fig. 1 shows a strip conductor connected to a valve grid 11 and to the interior conductor 16 of a coaxial line, the cathode and the outer conductor being connected by a similar parallel strip. When these strips pass through the wall of the envelope they are narrowed, as shown at 18, for the purpose described. Alternatively, they may be bent outwards where they pass through the wall 8. Fig. 5 shows coaxial conductors 19, 20, thinned where they pass through the walls. Fig. 6 shows coaxial conduotors connected by a conical seal 22 and thinned in the portions opposite the seal. As the effect of the seal is not uniform at different points, the reduction in the conductors is varied accordingly or the thickness of the seal may be varied to compensate for the change in its diameter.
