Abstract

572,922. Automatic guns. ROE & CO., Ltd., A. V., and BEARDSHALL, G. May 13, 1942, No. 6500. [Class 92 (ii)] Relates to cartridge-feed mechanism of the type in which the cartridges are fed through a shoot x by belt portions which are torn asunder to release the cartridges, the separated belt lengths passing between power-driven rollers a, a<1> and b, bl. According to the invention, spring motors f wound at each recoil of the gun are used to drive the rollers. During recoil of the gun, not shown, a cam-lever is operated to give vertical sliding movement to a rack q driving a pinion p which, through a free-wheel device associated with pinion p and an overload clutch j, drives the hub g of a torsion spring f, the barrel or drum d of which is connected by a free-wheel device c with the roller a. The spring f is initially tensioned by winding- handles applied at o<1> or c<1>.
