Abstract

572,091. Lubricating ; bearings. AKER, E. S. March 16, 1944, No. 4931. Convention date, July 28, 1943. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] A non-metallic bearing sleeve 13 rotating with the shaft 12 has axial water-receiving channels 14 leading through radial passages 16 to the bearing surface 15, the lubricating water being discharged through the passages by centrifugal force. The sleeve 13 consists of rubber cemented or vulcanized to a metal carrier sleeve 11 which extends beyond the sleeve 13 to receive metal end collars 18 which are secured by set-screws 19. The collars have channels aligned with the channels 14 and may be of smaller diameter than the sleeve 13. Each channel 14 may be continuous and supply a number of passages 16, or each channel may lead to and supply only one passage, the channels 21 from one end alternating with channels 22 from the other end, as shown in Fig. 4, each channel terminating in one passage 23. The application to submerged propeller shafts and machinery is described.
