Abstract

279,847. British Thomson-Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Gilson, E. G.). Oct. 27, 1926, [Convention date]. Channels a n d reservoirs in thrust bearings.--A thrust bearing ring 14 has its rubbing surface which bears on a ring 10 in the form of a series of helical inclines so as to form wedge shaped oil receiving recesses. The recesses extend from division lines 15 tangential to the inner periphery 16 of the ring and are deepest adjacent the inner periphery. As shown the ring 10 rests on a ring 9 seated spherically in a ring 5 in a casing 3, and shells 4, 8 hold lubricant to a level just above the upper surface 11 of the bearing ring 10. Radial passages 7 extend radially through the block 5. In operation the helical inclines pump oil centrifugally into the wedge shaped recesses at a pressure proportional to the speed of the shaft 1.
