Abstract
572,092. Lubricating ; bearings. AKER, E. S. March 17, 1944, No. 5017. Convention date, July 28, 1943. [Classes 12 (i) and 12 (iii)] A non-metallic bearing sleeve 12 rotating with the shaft 15 has radial passages 18 through which lubricating water is forced centrifugally from axial channels 17 in a corrugated metal sleeve 11 between the sleeve 12 and the shaft. The sleeve 12 consists of rubber moulded or forced onto the sleeve 11 which extends beyond the rubber to receive metal end collars secured by set-screws, the collars being of smaller diameter than the sleeve 12. One or more external grooves 19 may be formed in the sleeve 12 to assist in spreading the lubricating water and to provide clearance spaces for sand and grit. The bearing may be applied to the submerged shafts of boats or machinery.
