Abstract
Films of water-insoluble organic derivatives of cellulose or of water-insoluble resinous polymerisation products are dyed in a jig dyeing machine by association, throughout their lengths, with fabric capable of taking up the dye liquor. In the examples, a film made from cellulose acetate, dimethyl phthalate and triphenyl phosphate is jig-dyed between two lengths of cotton fabric in an aqueous bath containing turkey red oil, sodium hexametaphosphate and Duranol violet or a mixture of Dispersol fast yellow and Duranol red. Dyeing is preferably conducted at 65 DEG to 70 DEG C. and the film immediately dried at 80 DEG to 110 DEG C. Films made from cellulose propionate, butyrate, acetate-butyrate or acetate-propionate, ethyl cellulose acetate, ethyl or benzyl cellulose, polymerized vinyl acetate, polyvinyl chloracetate or polymerised alkyl substituted acrylic esters such as polymerised methyl methacrylate, with or without the addition of plasticising or softening agents such as dimethyl, diethyl, dimethoxyethyl or dibutyl phthalate, methyl or ethyl phthalyl-ethyl glycollate, dimethyl or diethyl tartrate, triphenyl or tricresyl phosphate, di- or tri-acetin or trichlorethyl phosphate are also specified. In addition to cotton, viscose rayon fabric is also specified as being suitable for association with the film.
