Abstract

571,665. Radial cylinder pumps. AIRCRAFT HYDRAULIC APPLIANCES, Ltd., and WYLIE, H.N. Aug. 10, 1943, No. 12934. [Class 102 (i)] In a variable stroke radial pump with a track ring of variable eccentricity and a biassed valve shaft, as described in Specification 524,199, the track ring is mounted on means which oppose the forces set up by viscous drag between the rotating cylinder assembly and the track ring and tending to rotate the ring, but which permit substantially rectilinear movement of the ring to change its eccentricity. In the form shown in Fig. 3, a flat portion 35 on the ring 11 bears against a plate 36 through the intermediary of spaced roller bearings 37. The latter are mounted in a cage 38 having a slot 40 engaged by a guiding pin 42 and provided with a spring 39 which presses it against a pin 41 on the ring 11 also engaged in the slot 40. The arrangement is such that the total reaction force R passes between the rollers 37 close to the one remote from the spring 39. Opposite the rollers, the casing 10 is formed with a seating 34 for the ring 11 between stop segments 45, 46. The spring 33 comprises laminµ of different lengths clamped at one end 43 and bearing.on a rod 44. A choice of different sized rods may be made, and they may be positioned adjustably relative to the end 43. Alternatively, a spiral spring may be disposed between the ring 11 and an adjustable abutment on the casing 10. In the form shown in Fig. 4., the ring 11 is supported by diametrically opposite links 50, 53, and is forced to its position of maximum eccentricity by a bending strut 56. The links may be of equal or unequal length, either or both may act in tension or compression, and they may be parallel with on another in the mean position of the ring 11.
