[Class 38 (i)] A transformer tank a or like container is fitted with an inwardly-projecting insulator e mounted directly in its wall or in an extension c, the insulator carrying a socket contact f and receiving a corresponding insulator g fitted to the cable end d, which carries a plug h and encloses additional insulation wrapped on to the cable end to form a flanged enlargement i. The joint between the cable end box and the tank or extension is made oil- and pressure-tight so that oil or compressed air or gas can be introduced between the insulators e, g, which are arranged in such a position as to prevent an air lock when oil is introduced or the space is previously exhausted. If the cable is detached from the tank for testing, its insulator g is covered by an auxiliary container filled with oil.
