Abstract
570,917. Making saws. SPEAR & JACKSON, Ltd., and PARSONS, G. W. Feb. 28, 1944, No. 3647. [Class 83 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIII] Circular saws are made by welding or brazing toothed segments 13 formed of cast hard metal to a disc 10 of less expensive tough metal, the disc being formed with radial slots 12 and flat or segmental seating surfaces 11 to receive corresponding surfaces on the segments 13. To provide teeth of uniform pitch, the rear tooth of each segment is of reduced width to form continuity with one wall of the notch 12. The radial faces of the disc 10 and segments 13 may be ground to reduce their thickness, and the outer edges of the teeth may be thicker than the inner to provide clearance, or the teeth may be set. The teeth may be fitted with cutting-edges of harder metal.
