Abstract
695,249. Gear-cutting. VERWALTUNGS GES. DER WERKEUGMASCHINENFABRIK OERLIKON. July 4, 1951 [July 6, 1950], No. 15871/51. Class 83 (iii). A cutter head for cutting spiral bevel gears is similar in shape to a spiral bevel gear, the teeth 1 of which form the tool blades, the cutting edges of the blades being arranged in one or more circles around the axis of rotation of the tool, and the top faces of the.blades lying on a common cone surface. The teeth may be formed on one or more annular rings 6, 6, Fig. 5, and may have inserted hard metal cutting edges. The blades may be arranged in a group of three with a roughing blade 10, Fig. 7, a cutting blade 11 for the convex faces, and a blade 12 for the concave faces. Alterna. tively, the blades are alternately convex and concave. The cutter-heads may have integral or attached blades such as 13, Fig. 9. The blade 13, is clamped against an adjustable stop 20 by a screw 21 and rests on a pad 18. In using the cutter of Fig. 7, the roughing blades 10 make a cut in each tooth-space before the cutter is fed to bring the blades 11, 12 into operation.
