Abstract

570,777. Opening and cleaning fibres. DUNKERLEY, F., ALDINGTON, F., WADDINGTON, A., and BUTTERWORTH, H. S. Feb. 3, 1944, No. 1983. [Class 120 (i)] In opening and cleaning fibrous materials in preparation for spinning, the fibres are carried by an air blast down an annular space 7 between two tubular electrodes 1, 5, and up the central tube 4 into the delivery tube 8. The inner electrode 5 and a bottom electrode 13 are positively charged and in conjunction with the swirling set up when the direction of the air stream is changed at the bottom of the central tube 4 cause the fibres to deposit foreign matter through the grid 12 into the conical box 10, which is vertically adjustable on the tube 1. Two or more units may be connected in series to give repeated treatment.
