Abstract
569,763. Rotary drying-apparatus. BOURNE, H. T. Sept. 15, 1943, No. 15113. [Class 34 (ii)] In drying apparatus, e.g., for laundries, heated air is drawn down through a chamber a in which is mounted a perforated horizontal drum d rotated successively in opposite directions through gearing driven by an electric motor f<3> automatically controlled by reversing gear, an air heater c being provided on top of the chamber and the downwardly moving heated air being withdrawn from the lower portion of the drum by a fan g housed in the bottom of the chamber. The drum is enclosed at the sides by part-cylindrical partitions spaced at their top and bottom edges to provide the inlet and outlet for the air. Baffles are provided above the entrance k to the fan, to form a central and two side passages for the withdrawal of air. Live steam is circulated through the tubular air heater c under the control of the inlet valve c<1> and the thermostatically operated exhaust valve c<2>. A pair of thermometers is provided, one connected by a pipe to the inlet for heated air and the other to the entrance k to the fan. When both show the same temperature, drying has been completed. According to the Provisional Specification, baffles divide the downwardly-moving heated air into two streams which are directed from opposite sides into the upper part of the drum.
