Abstract
569,422. Casting processes. UDY, M. J. July 1, 1943, No. 10715. Convention date, July 9, 1942. [Class 83 (i)] [Also in Group II] Piping &c. is prevented by covering the surfaces of the molten metal in the mould, risers, &c. with layers of hot slag, preferably produced by placing in the mould, before pouring, an exothermic reaction mixture, e.g. one containing ferric oxide or magnetite, oxidizing material, and silicon or aluminium, or both, or an alloy thereof, such as ferrosilicon. A suitable mixture contains sodium nitrate 25 parts, ferrosilicon 25, and magnetite 70.
