569,208. Soldering-irons. STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES, Ltd., and ATKINSON, A. B. Sept. 3, 1943, No. 14410. [Class 83 (iv)] [Also in Group XI] A soldering-iron of small size comprises a bit 1 having an electric heater in a cavity 2 closed by a mica disc 3 secured by a nut 5 on a threaded rod 4. The electric heating element may be omitted and the bit heated by an external flame. The leads 6, 7 pass through a copper tube 8 to connector pins 10, 11, to which the supply leads are also connected. A moulded handle 14 fits closely over the copper tube and is closed by an insulating plug 16 threaded on the rod 4. Overheating of the handle notwithstanding its proximity to the bit, is avoided by the heat-insulating disc 3, and by the dissipation of such heat as passes through it, over the whole area of the copper tube 8.
