Abstract

589,892. Electrically heated soldering irons. SENIOR, A. J. March 26, 1945, No. 7539. [Class 39 (iii)] [Also in Group XXII] An electrically heated soldering iron (Fig. 1) comprises a bit 10 secured to a cylindrical support 12 of low thermal conductivity and small cross sectional area, at the other end of which is borne a weighted handle 15 and an annular stand 14. The bit 10 is hollow to accommodate a heating element 11 as is the support 12. In a modification, a housing, which may be of heat conducting or heat insulating material, surrounds the support 12, which is then secured to it, the handle being attached to the end of the housing which also carries the stand 14. In a further modification, Fig. 4, a shield 22 surrounds the bit, around which is arranged heating element 21. The cylindrical support 23 is solid, as shown in Fig. 4, and is attached to the housing 17 by means of a sleeve 18.
