Abstract

951,145. Diffusion pumps. ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd. May 17, 1962 [June 2, 1961], No. 20015/61. Heading F1E. In a diffusion pump, a reheater 13, formed of material having good thermal conductivity, extends above the liquid surface in the vapour path and is in good thermal conducting relationship with the heater 8 so as to tend to vaporize any drops of liquid which are carried in the vapour from the boiler. An electrical resistance heater 7 heats the working liquid through heater 8 and reheater 13 has apertures 14, through which the vapour may diffuse. In modifications the reheater 13 may have longi- tu dinal, helical or circumferentially fins which may be surrounded by a cylindrical shield. In a further modification a tube extends from the top of the reheater 13 into the duct 3 and is formed at its upper end with a second jet and with apertures at its lower end. The reheater may be welded or brazed to a plate to which is attached an immersion heater. The upper surface of the plate may be domed. In another embodiment the heater projects into the reheater through a central aperture formed in the plate 8. The reheater may extend past one or more jets in a multiject pump and may be applied to each duct in a multiduct pump. Specification 889,362 is referred to.
