Abstract

1,094,178. Soldering. CHARLES AUSTEN PUMPS Ltd. March 16, 1966, No. 11437/66. Addition to 1,021,117. Heading B3R. In an electrically heated soldering appliance comprising a body having a heating element, a hollow bit secured to the body, a solder collecting chamber attached to a tubular extension of the bit and to a tube intended to be connected to a source of vacuum and a vent which may be covered or uncovered by an operator to control the application of vacuum to the chamber, the bit and the tubular extension thereof form a straight length, the bit being detachably secured to the body and the tubular extension entering obliquely into the chamber. The body 1 is cylindrical and is supported from a two part handle 2 which supports the lead wires 4 and a vacuum supply tube 6, the latter having the vent 8 and passing through a detachable plug 9 into a cylindrical solder collecting chamber 10. The end of the tube 6 is blocked by a screw 11 and has radial air inlet holes 12 and the body 1 has a bore extending through its outer end which accomodates a short straight counterbored nickel-copper alloy bit 15 held in place by a screw 16 the extension of the bit entering obliquely through the side of the chamber 10.
