Abstract

568,480. Electric light fittings. BRITISH THOMSON - HOUSTON CO., Ltd., WOOD, C. W.. and FRISBY, J. K. Oct. 29, 1943, No. 17877. [Class 75 (iv)] An electric light fitting suitable for use in a surgical operating theatre comprises a domed housing 1 suspended by chains or hangers 2 from the ceiling and: containing a number of trough-shaped reflectors 3 and fluorescent electric discharge lamps or other tubular light sources 4. The ends. of the light sources project into compartments 5 at the ends of housing containing the lamp control gear and one or more auxiliary light sources emitting downwardly directed light through apertures 6 in the bottoms of the compartments. The auxiliary light sources may be supplied by a separate source of current and be brought into operation automatically when the main supply fails. The inner walls 8 of the compartments 5 are clamped against the ends of the reflectors by tubes 9. The upper parts 10 of the tubes are detachably secured to the lower parts by bolts 11 and clamp the parallel edges of the reflectors in position. Some of the tubes are connected by extension tubes 13 to false end-walls 12 supporting the starting switches and condensers for the lighting circuit and end walls 15 and some form supports for the auxiliary light sources. The reflectors may be arranged on a curve to converge the light towards the working plane and adjustable spotlights 7 may be housed in the hangers 2.
