Abstract
568,199. Windscreen wipers. HOUDAILLE HYDRAULIC SUSPENSION CO., Ltd., and FERNANDES, A. M. Sept. 17, 1943,No. 15310. [Class 138 (i)] A windscreen wiper of the kind in which a rotary blade 18 is carried by a movable arm 10 which carries the blade to a parked position by a rotary or other movement, is constructed with anti-friction means such as rollers 32, Fig. 2, which engage an abutment member 26, when the arm 10 is being moved to its parked position, so that the blade 18 is forced to a position in which it does not obstruct the view. The abutment 26 is fixed at the side of the screen 24, and the rollers 34 are mounted in U-shaped clips 36 riveted to a metal bead 40 of the wiper. The arm 10 can be moved by a lever 46 on a shaft 44 provided with a second lever 48 for switching off the driving current when the wiper is parked. The rollers 32 may be mounted so as to be closer to the shaft 16 of the blade, and they may be replaced by curved springs. The abutment 26 may be formed with a sharpened blade-like portion 54, Fig. 4 (not shown), or may be formed as a guide 60, Fig. 5, fitted at its centre with a roller 62 and formed with a flange 64 for securing it to the frame 32. The invention is applicable to retractable blade-carrying arms.
