Abstract
567,975. Vehicle bodies. LUCIEN, R. March 15, 1943, No. 4225. [Class 108 (i)] A vehicle comprises a front section 11 containing the controls, a central load-carrying section 12 and a rear supporting section 13 containing an engine 34 connected to the wheels 15, the sections being provided with means for readily securing them together and detaching them from one another so that similar sections may be easily interchanged. The central section shown, which is parallel-sided throughout and has a central passage, is provided with jacks 29 for supporting it when disconnected ; wheels may be provided to enable heavy loads to be carried. The end sections are fitted to the central one at points 16, 17 formed by butting faces and comprising locating members 18 on the front section 11 to enter sockets 19 on the central section 12, as shown in Fig. 5, which also shows lugs 22 on one section carrying bolts 23 to enter lugs 24 on the connected section and be secured by nuts 25 ; alternatively to the lug-and-bolt connections the locating members 18 are threaded at the roots and are rotatable, by means of heads on the other side of transverse stiffening plates in which they are mounted, so that they can be engaged with threads in the sockets 19. The wheels in the rear sections are also steerable, being controlled by connections to the steering wheel 30 in the front section ; an air-conditioner 72 purifies the air entering the engine, an air intake being provided in the front section and leading to a downwardly curved passage 71 in the rear section ; the airconditioner delivers air to the vehicle through ducts in the roof. Each of the end sections carries a pair of retractable wheels to render them self-supporting when required ; curved doors 40, 43 are also provided.
