Abstract

794,345. Vehicle wheels. HEBBLETHWAITE, L. C. Aug. 24, 1955 [Oct. 27, 1954], No. 31006/54. Class 144 (1). A wheel suitable for use as a spare wheel, intended only for temporary road use, comprises two semi-circular half sections 1, 2 hinged together about their common diameter to permit folding for stowage purposes. As shown, each half section includes a non-inflatable half tyre 3 of plastics and the hinge pins 4 are disposed to be aligned with the axially outermost face of the tyre. For use the two half sections are bolted together through lugs 6, 8 projecting from the wheel face opposite to that of the hinges. The central hub portion of the assembled wheel is suitably apertured at 11 to permit mounting of the wheel on permanent hubs having either four- or five-stud fixing, a separate clamping ring 14, Fig. 3, being used to suit the number of studs. The wheel disc may be of metal or plastics.
