[Class 117] In pneumatic separators for granular or powdered material, of the kind comprising inner and outer casings 1, 4, Fig. 1, a fan 11 for circulating air upwardly in the inner casing and downwardly through the annular space between it and the outer casing, and a rotating disc 10 for distributing the material fed by a trunk 14 into the upwardly moving air stream, the underside of the distributor is provided with a profiled surface 12 to guide the air stream into the separating zone without eddies, and a stack of plates 18 is provided to rotate above the distributor to remove the heavier components carried in the air stream. Preferably the plates increase in diameter and in spacing from the lowermost upwardly. The fan 11 may be carried by the distributor or mounted above it and below the plates, Fig. 4, or above the plates, Fig. 3 (not shown); A deflector plate 15 is carried by the feed trunk 14 and may be stationary or rotated with or independently of the distributor. A movable cuff 19 is carried on the inner casing or on an intermediate shell 20 which forms therewith an annular space to take the heavier components deposited in the expansion space 21. A separator for providing three grades comprises three concentric casings 1, 4, 35, Fig. 4, each having a collecting hopper and delivery spout 3, 41, 42.
